To contribute to the debate on the TTIP ("Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership") and informed mobilization on the disputed aspects of this partnership transatlantic trade and investment, ASTM NGO, Caritas, Greenpeace and Green Movement as the OGB-L union had invited 13 March 2014 a conference internet store with Ernst-Christoph Stolper. The speaker is a political scientist and has been active in the peace movement of the 1980s. He worked for many years as a political officer for the Greens regional governments of North Rhine-Westphalia internet store and Rhineland-Palatinate, where he s is mainly occupied with environmental and energy issues.
Ernst-Christoph Stolper, who spoke before a large audience, all alarms are triggered at the mention of TTIP, so that there is no principle against free trade. For the European Commission, the TTIP is less bureaucracy and more growth. But the TTIP is also liberalization, deregulation, despite the experience of the crisis, and even the rules of the market for the crop, chlorinated chickens, GMOs, hormones in meat, and confrontation blocks.
It is difficult to be very specific on the TTIP, says Ernst-Christoph Stolper, as negotiations take place away from the public, in secret, so that the trading strategy of the EU, says the Commission, is not known. And ironic that this effort to keep things secret not worth it, because internet store the NSA has sought to put the USA informed. That said, Ernst-Christoph Stolper meanwhile is convinced that the Commission understood that secrecy no longer useless.
Ernst-Christoph Stolper think it is not the duty, as is the case for most trade agreements, which are the real issue of TTIP. Tariffs in the EU are 5.3% and 3.5% of the USA. These are very low rates globally, even if they generate substantial revenue, volume of trade is very important. The issue of TTIP, it is rather non-tariff trade barriers, namely the laws and regulations. It is this dimension that is causing more and more protests and appeals to publicize the progress of the file while the fourth internet store round of negotiations is underway and Karel De Gucht, Commissioner for TTIP, prepares to take stock of the situation. (Note: the conference was held before the Commissioner has ruled on the fourth internet store round)
Why TTIP raised there so much opposition? If the TTIP raises many questions and challenges is that it covers a range of topics of concern to the public for a decade. Ernst-Christoph Stolper cites food security and agriculture, environmental internet store protection technology, the opening of services markets, financial internet store services, culture, standards of data protection and the social sphere.
Food security and agriculture are affected by pesticide rules on origin labeling and GMOs. Stolper also believes they would be affected by the effects of TTIP on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) which is based on the idea that European agriculture is concentrated in small areas, while agriculture is based on U.S. large spaces, internet store which has been in the past, a source of difficulty between the two entities.
Technical environmental protection in Europe is based on the principle of prevention - while in the U.S. the dominant principle of "sound science" - which allows internet store European governments
