The city of Granada is located south of the Community of Andalusia at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, home, and beautiful pueblos, the culmination of the Iberian Peninsula, Peak Mulhacen maks and spencer with 3482m. In addition, maks and spencer there are ski resorts, considered the best in Spain.
Its period of greatest prosperity occurred during the Arab domination, when it became an independent kingdom in 1023, under the dynasty of Ziríes. In 1492, the Catholic Monarchs conquered the city, putting an end to almost 8 centuries of Muslim rule in the country. It is said that their last king, Boabdi l, to go into exile after the Christian reconquest, looked for the last time to his beloved city and wept. His mother reproved him incontinent, pronouncing a famous saying:
Situated on a hill opposite the Alhambra, the Plaza de San Nicolás contemplates one of the most beautiful views of the palace. The Albaicin is considered the best preserved Arab neighborhood across the country, preserving the beauty of its architecture, a route composed of irregular streets lined with whitewashed houses, forming a maze of alleyways and squares of an undeniable charm.
Granada Cathedral was built after the conquest of the Catholic Monarchs. Initiated in 1505, under the orders of Queen Isabel "la Católica", was built on the ancient city's largest mosque. Initially, it was conceived as a gothic temple inspired by the cathedral of Toledo. But when they took the works architects Enrique Egas in 1523 and his replacement of Siloam Diego in 1529, changed the original planning, becoming one of the first Renaissance cathedrals in Spain.
One of the most important places of the temple is the Royal Chapel, built by petition of the Catholic Monarchs, that should welcome the tomb of King, Queen and their descendants. Thus, we can see inside the tomb of Isabella of Castile, Ferdinand of Aragon, and their children Juana "La Loca" and Philip "El hermoso". From 1574, the monarchs would be buried in the Monastery of the Escorial, by express desire of the king Philip II. The chapel is leaning against the cathedral and the second visits monument in the city, after the Alhambra.
Also built by Diego de Siloam from 1537, Mudejar Church of Santa Ana is located near the river Darro, and stroll along its banks is to discover a city full of interesting places.
